Social Networks – Fad Or Future?

April 13th, 2010

Okay, so by now we’ve all had our fair share of conversations with people who are talking about their Facebook status or Tweeting on Twitter! Yes, I am talking about the arrival of the social media-sphere! So what’s the deal with it? The deal is Social networks are here to stay, quickly becoming a powerful marketing tool for business and a tool for friends and family to stay connected.

All business owners know that word of mouth is the most powerful tool someone can have. Well what about people talking about your business to others… and MANY others seeing it? This in a way is a blessing and a curse. A blessing that your business is being talked about, the curse is that you have no control of the content that is being talked about. Is it good or bad? Well the truth be told, people are not dumb (well not most anyway). People do not simply believe the first thing they see, they will look deeper to ensure what they are reading is truth (for the most part). So putting the bad in with the good is a great way for people to recognize your business is run by humans and not a robot!

So the question is… are Social Networks a Fad or are they the Future? The answer is actually BOTH! The fact is, there will always be social networks and there will always be that community to help pass on the good word that a certain movie was great; thus sending their social circle into a frenzy where they ALL go and see it because ’so and so’ said it was GREAT on their Facebook Status! (you see where I’m going with this don’t you?) Truth be told social sites are also considered a Fad as well. Take the still mildly popular site “MySpace”. This site is considered to be a social networking site, however, with the dawn of Facebook and Twitter it has been dwarfed in record time and is now becoming the Fad scenario. So to answer the question accurately. Yes social networking sites are the Future but when a newer and better version of them comes knocking be sure to watch the old become a memory of the past.

Modern Innovations in Pressure Washers

April 12th, 2010

Over the years, companies have introduced new technologies and mechanical changes to pressure washers. Because of this, there are a variety of models and categories available today. These include commercial, industrial, steam, cold water pressure washers, and hot water machines to name a few.

Some of the latest models are classified based on the technologies they feature. Several new technologies make using these pressure cleaners far easier than older, conventional models. Some of these technologies include: low flow technology, tri-mode functionality, and super-high steam temperatures. However, there is one technology that stands above the rest – automatic shut-down.

What Is This Technology?

Preferred by cleaning professionals and all users of electric commercial pressure washers and industrial pressure washers, automatic shut-down technology reduces wear and tear on key components to prolong the machine’s life. To understand this technology fully, one needs to know how a pressure washer works.

Functioning of a Pressure Washer

A pressure washer device pumps water at various temperature levels (cold water, hot water, or steam) across surfaces at high pressure levels to wash away the dirt, dust, stains, and other impurities.

The high levels of pressure are obtained through a pump, which pumps water through a nozzle onto the surface. A gasoline or propane engine or an electric motor powers the pump. The output is ejected onto the surface through a trigger gun connected to the actual machine through a pressure hose.

A Practical Problem

In conventional pressure washer machines, the operator can stop the output flow by using the trigger of the gun. However, even if there is no output flow, the machine’s pump and motor are still on. To reduce wear, the operator must return to the machine during each break to switch it off.

This is highly inconvenient when cleaning large buildings and areas with long hoses. The operator may even want to stop the work temporarily. Either the machine stays on or the operator must go back to shut the machine off each time. The latter option is inconvenient. The former option is harmful to the machine, as it may suffer much wear and tear and may result in wastage of power.

A Solution

Automatic shut-down technology offers a solution to this problem. Like all pressure cleaners, operation of the machine is controlled through the trigger gun. However, when the machine is not in use for more than 30 seconds, machines with this technology shut down automatically. When the trigger is squeezed again, the machine starts up.

This technology allows the operators to shut the machine on and off for temporary work stoppages. This functionality effectively reduces wear and tear on the pump and motor, the key components of the machine. A reduction in wear translates to greater longevity.

It is important to note that this technology is only available in electric versions of tri-mode, hot water, cold water, and steam pressure washers. To learn more about this advanced technology, search the internet for trusted suppliers of high quality pressure cleaning systems

A Long Goodbye (To Internet Explorer 6)

April 9th, 2010

Although browser technology has come a long way in the last decade or so, a small percentage of users are living in the technology stone age by using Internet Explorer 6 – the browser than came bundled with Windows XP. The lion’s share goes to Mozilla Firefox, a free, open-source browser. Google’s new browser, Chrome, is clearly picking up speed as well. But standing there shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the most advanced Internet applications in the world is a bug riddled, security-hole laden application that’s over a decade old – IE6.

It’s still in use for a variety of reasons, some don’t know any better. Some folks run pirated copies of Windows XP, and are unable to download the browser updates (along with any other critical security update) from Microsoft. Still others are in corporate environments that require the old browser for running proprietary software.

Luckily however the tide is changing, and people are moving away from IE6 at a much faster rate than before. Factors triggering this include the introduction and growing popularity of Microsoft’s new operating system Windows 7. Google just recently announced they’d be dropping support for IE6 with their popular email application Gmail, as well as their other online offerings like Google Docs. Even Microsoft is dropping support for IE6 in several of their online software applications.

Where does that leave Core3? Our design and development teams want nothing more than to bring the most modern and cutting-edge technologies to our clients. At the same time though it’s obvious we can’t turn our backs on a significant percentage of users who are either stuck with, or unaware of the fact that they’re using out-of-date software.

So we’ve decided to make a compromise. Future projects will provide limited compatibility for Internet Explorer 6. We’ll ensure that the user experience isn’t broken in anyway, but won’t be quite as rich either. Without getting too technical we have ways in which we can determine that the user is browsing a site we’ve designed with IE6. If that’s the case, the user won’t see things like transparent elements, drop shadows, fancy buttons, etc.

They’ll still see the important nuts and bolts of the design, just sans a lot of the enriching detail that are easily supported in modern browsers. We feel this approach will allow our team to develop amazing websites and applications that take full advantage of modern browser technologies without sacrificing much of anything.
